I think that we should somehow come up with a system by which we can determine how many people have bested The Guy, mostly so that I can say stuff like "I am one of x people that have become THE GUY" at fancy dinner parties. At any rate, it would be interesting and after 100 people made it we could have, I dunno, cake or something.

Right now, the running tally is: 627.

The actual number of people who have beaten the game may be higher than this, but I cannot get an accurate count unless all those who have defeated the guy post here to confirm the numbers. Please note that I may have accidentally miscounted, so if any of you notice a discrepancy between the count and the actual numbers, please notify me via PM (EDIT: FYNDR is no longer updating this thread. If you see a mistake, send a PM to SilentLoner instead). To make things more interesting, post how you reacted when you beat the game and/or how much you hate, hate, HATE The Guy's giant head form, or whatever else you feel is relevant or awe-inspiring.

I beat The Guy.  I don't really hate the giant head.  What I really hate are the white homing shinies of doom that can suck my balls.

Yeah.  What I like about the final form is that it'd be so much easier if Kayin removed any one aspect of it - the fire on the ground, the spikes in the mouth, the homing white globs, and the fireballs all combine to make it one hell of a challenge.

You can += 1 to that tally. Heh I was kinda hoping you were able to use The Guy's gun even though The Kid probably couldn't hold it properly.

Until I reached the third pattern, I didn't even notice the area at the top. I used a safe spot to get past the second pattern. After I took out the giant head I kept on my guard and barely blinked through the credits 'til the very end. I kinda regret doing that now for some reason. I think I like sudden shocks, 'cause I enjoyed the little surprise at the end of Maximum Carnage for the SNES. Then after that, my next thought was to try a Very Hard clear.

my reaction to beating the guy was THAT WAS SO MUCH FUCKING EASIER WHEN HE'S NOT SHOOTING HIS SPINNING MACHINE GUN LASER BEAM EYES DURING HIS FINAL FORM.  ALSO STOP SLACKING OFF AND FINISH THE REST OF THE ENDING.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I'd much rather see the spinning machine gun rather than the burning floor, even if it is harder.

I beat The Guy. I actually didn't have any trouble with the spinning fire attack. I start on the left, then proceed right across the floor, up the right wall, across the ceiling, and drop down to the floor again. I haven't died once while doing that. The attacks that follow it were the biggest problem for me.

I beat the Guy.  The spinning machine guns took me the longest, and still kill me the most frequently on subsequent tries.

hahaha no, this was spinning machine gun WITH burning floor.

Needless to say, I never beat him while activating this glitch, and eventually realized that my own skills were causing me grief.  Basically, at first, you could shoot The Guy's eyes while the machine gun lasers were spinning.  If you knocked out both of them before he completed the rotation, it went straight to his third form, burning floor and all, and the lasers kept turning.  It wasn't until I STOPPED killing the hell out of his eyes during that phase that I realized I'd been doing it wrong the entire time and Kayin wasn't just fucking with me.

I've beaten The Guy twice now, once in both versions. The story behind that: I beat him in the slomo version first (after dying like a billion times), but because my computer is so fucking ancient, the credit sequence was slowed so much that the screen stopped scrolling before it was supposed to, causing The New Guy (formerly The Kid) to walk offscreen to his death. After learning that this was actually a glitch and not just one last "Haha, fuck you" moment, I went and beat The Guy again (after another billion deaths) in the frame skip version, earning the proper credit sequence. So I'm now The Guy Times 2!

I got The Guy down pretty well, it only takes an hour of attempts between each kill now.

I just became The Guy a few minutes ago after several hours and I really don't want to know how many deaths. The machine gun attack I didn't really have a problem with since what I did was start on the very left then jump down and run to the right after phase 4 and as soon as he begins talking start running back left and jump back up and every time the attack just goes in front of you. Unfortunately, because of this I never noticed the platform at the top and nearly went insane trying to figure out how to hit his second eye in phase 6 and then felt really stupid (and relieved) when I realized how. On a side note, was anyone else terrified of something killing The Kid before the credits could finish? I was constantly smashing all the buttons while the credits rolled.

At this point I'm actually wondering if I can rig the ending as a sub application that will always be frame skip.

I've beaten the guy a total of 4 times I got better thru each playthru, once on wuss mode which I died countless times on, then on hard mode which I did a little better the number of my deaths was only in the triple digits, then on very hard mode only the double digits this time which made happy. lol

Then finally on impossible mode, this game is good at crushing your ego....but you haven't had it crushed untill you make it to the final boss, get to his final form and get one hit away from killing him and die right there.

I finally beat impossible mode, after 6 days of non-stop trying.
