Total actual time: 37 seconds.

If you expect to go into an irc channel and get a response in 37 seconds, you are a fucking moron. So many people who came in and asked for me missed out on talking to me because they couldn't wait a minute. I'm busy and a lot of people on IRC idle (that means we're not staring at the screen 24 hours a day).

What sort of ADD motherfucker do you have to be to expect engaging discussion in 37 seconds? I don't answer most of my IMs in 37 seconds!

This happens all the time and I'm tempted to ban people who do it just to make a point.

Possibly! But it still happens all the goddamn time, so it's a worthwhile topic.
If you're using the chat, you could just leave it open in another tab, and check it every so often to see if anyone has responded. That's pretty much what I do.
