I Wanna Be The Guy: The Movie: The Game is a sardonic loveletter to the halcyon days of early American videogaming, packaged as a nail-rippingly difficult platform adventure. Players fill the role of The Kid, a youthful, vaguely Megaman-esque protagonist on a quest to become The Guy. This inscrutable plot, however, is just a vehicle for a wide variety of inventive, well-designed and frustrating jump-and-shoot challenges that pay homage to many of the games you loved as a child. The ever-fragile Kid explodes in a shower of red pixels at the slightest brush from the game's many obstacles, from traditional spikes and bottomless pits to more unconventional killers, such as plantlife and puzzle pieces.
Using a multiroute layout not unlike a Metroidvania, the game grants a degree of deadly exploration, without those extraneous upgades meant to make life easier. The game provides players with a choice in terms of their deathrate, thanks to a variable difficulty setting that changes the number of save points from frequent to nonexistent. IWBTG is open to all players; knowledge of videogaming history is optional, and may not help against the frequently ironic and always sadistic deathtraps located herein. And so, the question is left up to you...
Do YOU have what it takes to be The Guy?

Omniludicon, By Zarathustra!
August 17, 2008, 04:42:10 PM by Kayin
Zarathustra, the man who made Zeta World has released a very interesting web based game -- in which the entire premise is small, simple, user created levels. http://zarat.us/tra/hidden/omniludicon.htmlIt's surprising how much you can do with the simple tools given to you, and the size limitations of the state demand some craftiness. It's a lot of fun to play around with and I suggest everyone take a look at it. Also, recreating IWBTG areas is dumb. don't do it.

New Development Notice
June 13, 2008, 07:33:15 PM by Kayin
IWBTG and IWSTK are on developmental hold while I work on my new, serious projects. I'll probably eventually get to IWBTG content, but IWSTKs is probably off for a good long while. Just a heads up so no one is disappointed.

Voice talent needed
May 30, 2008, 01:53:47 AM by Kayin
I'm looking for some voice talent for my next non-IWBTG related game. The game will be of a serious tone in a semi-fantasy setting. I am looking for samples of as many voices an applicate can muster (even more comical ones, but the serious ones are more important). Heroes, villians, store clerics, whatever. The more the better.
Then feel free to email me the results for my review. I won't need or approve anyone for awhile (though I will tell you if you're in the serious running to get a voice roll), but be ready to do a good bit of voice work when you do.
Granted you're all 14 so I probably won't find a single good voice here, but who knows. Good luck!
Edit: Don't Email me with questions unless their good questions or you REAAAALLY need to know something. Example lines are in the thread somewhere, but like I've said a million times THIS IS NOT CASTING. I AM FINDING VOICE TALENT AND WORKING ACCORDING TO WHAT I HEAR. I am going to add more voice roles due to the amount of people that are around, for example.
YES you can still submit. You will be able to submit until something says otherwise.
Final note, I'm only accepting email submissions now.
edit: I NEED BITCHES. Ladies, if you can, please send me some samples. Thanks.

Friendly Pluggage

A friend of mine -- and more than likely superior game designer -- Zarathustra has had a game out for awhile now that hasn't really gotten the attention it deserves. http://breadbros.com/ZetaI'd like to urge you folks to at least check out the demo, especially if you like an old school, Super Mario World-esque charm.
